Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, presided over the second day of the National Security Strategies Conference 2024 in New Delhi today. During the session, Shah proposed a comprehensive strategy to bolster counter-terrorism efforts, emphasizing the need for enhanced collaboration with international agencies and improved measures to prevent terror financing.
Shah highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Anti-Terrorist Squads (ATSs) to fortify the nation’s counter-terrorism framework. He praised the recent successes in anti-Maoist operations but cautioned states that have recently cleared areas of armed groups to remain vigilant.
In his concluding remarks, Shah urged state Directors General of Police (DGsP) to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a prosperous and developed India by 2047. He noted the progress made in addressing long-standing national security issues such as Jammu & Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), and challenges in the North-East. Shah stressed the importance of addressing emerging threats like narcotics, rogue drones, and online fraud before they escalate.
Addressing the implementation of new criminal laws, Shah emphasized the need for protecting constitutional rights and delivering timely justice for victims. He highlighted that the success of these transformative laws relies on a shift in mindset, adoption of technology, and effective coordination. Shah directed DGsP to form teams of young police officers to ensure the laws are enforced effectively.
The Home Minister also encouraged young officers to devise strategic solutions for combating various financial frauds, including cryptocurrency and hawala transactions. He urged all DGsP to enhance internal security by leveraging multi-dimensional approaches, data analytics, and advanced techniques, ensuring the effective use of databases maintained by central agencies.
