“Amit Shah Pays Tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur”

RR Team, November 25, 2025November 25, 2025
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah on Monday paid homage to the memory and sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in Delhi, bowing in reverence to the Sikh Guru whose martyrdom is remembered as a defence of religious freedom and human dignity. The act of tribute comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed that the entire nation observe the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with gratitude and reflection.

Tribute and Remarks

Sharing his reflections on social media platform X, Shri Amit Shah highlighted the courage with which Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji confronted injustice and defended the rights of the persecuted. “To protect Dharma, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji did not hesitate even to make supreme sacrifice,” the minister wrote, describing the Guru’s life as “an eternal saga of India’s spiritual consciousness, courage and sacrifice.”

At the tribute site in Delhi, the Home Minister bowed and observed a moment of reverence, signalling the official recognition at the highest level for the historic act of self-sacrifice that, according to Sikh tradition, saved the freedom of conscience for many.

Nationwide Observance of 350th Martyrdom Day

The Prime Minister’s office has announced that the nation will observe the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The commemoration is intended to honour the Guru’s steadfast stand for justice and his commitment to protecting the right to practice one’s faith.

Officials said events and commemorations planned across the country will focus on the life, teachings and sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, emphasizing themes of courage, religious liberty and social harmony.

Historical Significance

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, is remembered in Sikh history for his principled refusal to accept forced conversion and for standing up against tyranny. His martyrdom is widely regarded as a seminal moment in India’s pluralistic narrative and is recalled as an emblem of resistance to oppression.

Scholars and religious leaders frequently point to the Guru’s sacrifice as an example of interfaith solidarity. By paying with his life to defend the rights of those from other faiths, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s legacy resonates beyond the Sikh community, reinforcing the constitutional values of freedom of religion and conscience.

Political and Social Reaction

The Home Minister’s tribute has been met with responses from political leaders, community representatives and citizens who lauded the national observance and reiterated the importance of remembering the Guru’s message of tolerance and sacrifice. Civic bodies and gurudwaras have announced plans for prayer meetings, readings of the Guru Granth Sahib and community service activities as part of the commemorations.

Religious scholars pointed out that marking the 350th anniversary provides an opportunity for renewed public education about the historical context of the Guru’s stand and its contemporary relevance to safeguarding pluralism in India.

Events and Commemorations Expected

Government offices and cultural institutions are expected to coordinate events that may include seminars, documentary screenings, and exhibitions highlighting the life and teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Sikh councils and gurudwaras across India typically mark martyrdom anniversaries with kirtan, prayers and langar, and this anniversary is anticipated to draw large public participation.

Security and logistical arrangements for major public commemorations will be overseen by local authorities to ensure peaceful conduct and broad accessibility for devotees and the general public.

Legacy of Courage and Dharma

Shri Amit Shah’s tribute reiterated a national narrative that frames Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice as a cornerstone of India’s spiritual and moral heritage. “The stories of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s renunciation, courage and sacrifice will continue to inspire us for eternity,” he wrote, urging citizens to reflect on the Guru’s commitment to righteousness.

As the country prepares to observe the 350th martyrdom day, officials and religious leaders alike have called for commemorations that stress unity, respect for diverse faiths, and the importance of protecting fundamental rights.
