Amit Shah Salutes NDRF on Raising Day, Calls Force Pillar of Trust

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah on Monday extended warm greetings to the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on the occasion of its Raising Day, lauding the force for emerging as the nation’s most trusted first responder during natural and man-made calamities.

In a message shared on social media platform X, Shri Amit Shah praised the courage, professionalism and selfless service of NDRF personnel, stating that the force plays a decisive role in realizing the Modi government’s vision of building a disaster-resilient India.

“Warm greetings to the personnel of NDRF on Raising Day. Through its significant role in realizing the Modi govt’s resolve to build a disaster-resilient India, the NDRF has today become the pillar of trust the nation relies on during calamities,” the Home Minister wrote.

Backbone of India’s Disaster Response Framework

Since its inception, the National Disaster Response Force has evolved into a specialized, highly trained force equipped to handle complex emergencies ranging from floods and cyclones to earthquakes, industrial accidents and chemical hazards. Operating under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the NDRF has been deployed across the country in times of crisis, often working in the most hostile and challenging conditions.

Over the years, the force has earned widespread public confidence due to its swift response, disciplined operations and humane approach to rescue and relief. From evacuating stranded civilians to conducting deep-water rescue operations and providing immediate medical assistance, NDRF teams have repeatedly demonstrated exceptional professionalism.

Salute to the Fallen Heroes

In his Raising Day message, Shri Amit Shah also paid homage to NDRF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. “Salute to the martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the safety of others,” he said, acknowledging the supreme sacrifice made by several brave rescuers while saving lives.

The NDRF’s operational history includes numerous instances where personnel risked, and in some cases lost, their lives while carrying out rescue missions during floods, landslides and building collapses. Their sacrifice continues to inspire generations of disaster responders across the country.

Alignment with Government’s Disaster-Resilient Vision

The Home Minister’s remarks underline the central government’s broader focus on strengthening disaster preparedness and mitigation mechanisms. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, disaster management has been placed at the core of governance, with emphasis on early warning systems, capacity building and community participation.

The NDRF has been a key pillar of this approach, supported through enhanced training, modern equipment and international cooperation. Its growing reputation has also led to international recognition, with NDRF teams participating in joint exercises and knowledge-sharing programmes with other countries.

A Symbol of Assurance in Times of Crisis

As climate change and urbanization increase the frequency and complexity of disasters, the role of specialized forces like the NDRF has become more critical than ever. With its strong ethos of service, technical expertise and nationwide reach, the force continues to reassure citizens that help is never far away in moments of distress.

The Raising Day greetings from the Union Home Minister serve as a reminder of the nation’s gratitude towards these silent warriors, whose dedication often goes unnoticed until disaster strikes.
