Andhra Pradesh’s Health Minister, Y. Satya Kumar, met with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to discuss expanding biotechnology initiatives in the state with greater central support. The meeting underscored the growing importance of biotechnology in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable startups, with both leaders recognizing its potential to drive innovation and economic growth.
Expressing gratitude for the Modi government’s continued support, Satya Kumar highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to harnessing biotechnology for advancements in healthcare and industrial applications. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration to bring cutting-edge research and innovations to the state, ensuring that local industries and research institutions benefit from national initiatives.
Dr. Jitendra Singh assured that the Centre remains committed to boosting biotechnology as a priority sector. He acknowledged Andhra Pradesh’s emerging role in India’s biotech landscape, particularly in areas such as biopharmaceutical research, marine biotechnology, and agricultural biotech solutions. With the state already home to several biotech incubators and research institutions, he noted that further collaboration could accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship.
India’s biotechnology sector has seen rapid growth, supported by initiatives like the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) funding and national biotech missions. Andhra Pradesh has been a key beneficiary of these efforts, witnessing an expansion in biotech startups and industry partnerships. Strengthening ties between the Centre and the state is expected to integrate Andhra Pradesh more deeply into India’s broader biotechnology roadmap, fostering self-reliance and a stronger global presence in research and innovation.
