Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches NIELIT Digital University

New Delhi: Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the NIELIT Digital University (NDU), a pioneering platform aimed at democratizing access to high-quality digital education. The platform will provide industry-aligned programs in emerging technologies like AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Semiconductors, and related fields.
During the event, the Minister also virtually inaugurated five new NIELIT Centres located in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Lunglei (Mizoram), and Daman (DNHDD). These centers are expected to strengthen NIELIT’s role in providing digital education even in remote and difficult-to-access regions.

Industry Collaboration and MoUs

Highlighting the need for industry-aligned education, Shri Vaishnaw emphasized that NIELIT should engage with the top 500 companies and adopt the motto “YOU DECIDE WHAT TO TEACH” to ensure courses meet industry requirements. During the launch, MoUs were signed with Microsoft, Zscaler, CCRYN, Dixon Tech, and Future Crime, setting the stage for stronger academia-industry collaboration.

“Technologies like electronics and IT are now integral across all sectors. Our goal is to equip students with the skills that industries demand today,” Shri Vaishnaw said. He further stressed the vision of building a digital university closely linked with industry, akin to the Gati Shakti University in the transport sector.

Panel Discussion on AI in Education

The launch event featured a panel discussion on the Role of AI in Digitalization of Education. Experts from Intel, Infosys, Microsoft, AA2IT, Barco Electronics, and academia discussed aligning skilling initiatives with market trends, expanding work-based learning, and enhancing employability pathways for Indian youth.

NIELIT Digital University Platform

The NDU platform (ndu.digital) offers NCVET-approved, NSQF-aligned programs with features like credit transfers through the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), industry-integrated courses, virtual labs, multilingual learning, and verifiable digital certificates. AI-driven tools such as career pathways, mentors, interview simulators, and interactive modules aim to empower learners nationwide, targeting 40 lakh students by 2030.

NIELIT’s Legacy and Reach

The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous society under MeitY, has played a key role in skill development and digital empowerment. With 56 centers, over 750 accredited institutes, and more than 9,000 facilitation centers, NIELIT has certified millions in emerging technologies.

NIELIT has been conferred the status of “Deemed to be University” with its main campus in Ropar, Punjab, and 11 constituent campuses across India. The institution is set to revolutionize higher education in the Electronics and ICT domain using advanced digital technologies.

Nationwide Participation

Over 1,500 participants, including MPs, MLAs, students, academicians, and technology experts, joined the event. The launch also highlighted digital connectivity in India’s North-East, with Lunglei in Mizoram now digitally linked following recent railway expansions.
