ATAB Strengthens Ayurveda Training and Global Outreach

RR Team, September 27, 2025September 27, 2025
New Delhi: Union Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav presided over a high-level review meeting assessing the progress of the Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB), a key initiative under the Ministry of Ayush. The meeting focused on ATAB’s efforts to enhance global trust in Ayurveda through accreditation of training courses and endorsement of practitioners abroad.

ATAB’s Role in Ayurveda Accreditation

Established under the administrative framework of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV) in December 2019, ATAB aims to accredit Ayurveda courses in India and internationally, beyond the regulatory scope of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act, 2020. The board ensures standardization and credibility in Ayurveda education, filling gaps in existing regulatory frameworks.

During the review, Dr. Vandana Siroha highlighted ATAB’s achievements, noting that 113 Ayurveda courses have been accredited so far—99 courses from 24 Indian institutions and 14 courses from two foreign countries. This initiative strengthens global recognition of Indian traditional medicine.

Endorsement of Ayurveda Professionals Abroad

In addition to course accreditation, ATAB has introduced a structured endorsement scheme for Ayurveda professionals practicing overseas. To date, 41 practitioners have been formally endorsed, meeting rigorous benchmarks for skills, knowledge, and ethical standards.

This endorsement enhances professional legitimacy, facilitates international mobility, and supports integration of Ayurveda into mainstream healthcare systems worldwide. It also fosters public trust and creates opportunities for global collaboration in research, education, and promotion of India’s traditional medical heritage.

Ministry of Ayush’s Commitment

Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha emphasized that ATAB is central to India’s vision of positioning traditional systems of medicine as a pillar of global wellness. The Ministry of Ayush continues to prioritize quality, credibility, and international outreach of Ayurveda through institutional mechanisms such as ATAB.

The board’s work not only reinforces India’s leadership in traditional medicine but also ensures that Ayurveda practitioners and courses adhere to globally recognized standards, thereby expanding the reach of India’s ancient medical knowledge.
