BCCI Seeks New Selectors for Men’s, Women’s & Junior Teams

RR Team, August 22, 2025August 22, 2025
New Delhi, August 22: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally invited applications to fill vacancies across its national selection committees. The move comes shortly after the Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement and is aimed at strengthening the selection process for men, women, and junior cricket teams.

Two Vacancies in Senior Men’s Selection Committee

The most notable openings are in the senior India men’s selection committee, where two positions have been declared vacant. According to the BCCI notification, selectors in this panel will play a crucial role in choosing Team India across all formats, including Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and any other format approved by the board.

Eligibility criteria mandate that applicants must have played a minimum of seven Test matches or 30 First-Class games, or 10 ODIs combined with 20 First-Class matches. Additionally, candidates must have retired at least five years ago and should not have served on any BCCI cricket committee for more than five cumulative years.

Currently, the men’s selection committee is headed by former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar, with Shiv Sunder Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and Sridharan Sharath as members.

Openings in Women’s Selection Panel

The women’s selection committee has four positions up for grabs. Members of this panel will oversee the selection of Team India (senior women), apart from reviewing age-group squads, coaches, and support staff. Their responsibilities also include maintaining a strong pipeline of talent and ensuring player performance evaluation.

Applicants must be former India women cricketers who have retired at least five years ago. They must also satisfy the same condition of not having served more than five years on any BCCI cricket committee. The existing committee is led by Neetu David, alongside Aarti Vaidya, Renu Margrate, Venkatcher Kalpana, and Shyama Shaw.

Junior Men’s Selection Vacancy

The BCCI has also announced one vacancy in the junior men’s selection committee, which oversees teams up to the Under-22 level. The role extends beyond player selection to supervising junior tournaments, appointing captains, monitoring training camps, and instilling ethical values among budding cricketers.

Eligibility for this role requires experience of at least 25 First-Class matches, with retirement from the game at least five years prior. Similar to the other panels, former committee service cannot exceed five cumulative years.

The current junior men’s committee is chaired by VS Thilak Naidu, with Pathik Patel, Ranadeb Bose, Kishan Mohan, and Harvinder Singh Sodhi as members.

Why the Changes Now?

The timing of the announcement — just days after the Asia Cup squad selection — indicates the BCCI’s focus on ensuring consistency and accountability in its committees. The appointments will also allow fresh perspectives in player assessment ahead of upcoming ICC events, including the Champions Trophy and World T20 cycle.

The selection committees form the backbone of Indian cricket administration, playing a vital role in shaping squads that represent India at the international level. By inviting new applications, the board seeks to widen the pool of experienced voices contributing to critical cricketing decisions.

Further details on eligibility and application procedure are available on the official BCCI website. Applications are expected to be scrutinized in the coming weeks before final selections are made.
