Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Launch Transforms City Travel

RR Team, August 11, 2025August 11, 2025

Starting Monday, Bengaluru’s much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro officially opened to passengers. Flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2025, the new line will run across 16 stations connecting important parts of the city. This addition marks a major step in improving Bengaluru’s public transport network.

Route and Stations: Connecting Key Areas

The Yellow Line spans over 19 kilometers, linking RV Road in southern Bengaluru to Bommasandra, the city’s bustling industrial zone. This line includes 16 stations and three key interchange points at RV Road, Jayadeva, and Central Silk Board.

The RV Road station connects with the existing Green Line, while Jayadeva and Central Silk Board will serve as interchanges with the future Pink and Blue Lines. This integration promises seamless travel across different parts of the city, significantly reducing travel time for commuters.

Notably, the Yellow Line enhances access to major tech hubs such as Infosys Foundation, Wipro, Biocon, and Tech Mahindra, supporting Bengaluru’s reputation as India’s Silicon Valley.

Operating Hours and Fares

The Yellow Line runs daily from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, initially with three trains operating at 25-minute intervals. In the near future, frequency will increase to every 10 minutes to accommodate growing demand.

Fares follow Bengaluru Metro’s standard pricing, ranging from ₹10 to ₹90 depending on travel distance. This affordable pricing aims to attract more daily commuters, easing the load on road traffic and promoting sustainable transportation.

Impact on Bengaluru’s Transport and Economy

The launch of the Yellow Line is expected to drastically reduce road congestion in key corridors. By connecting office areas with residential and industrial zones, commuters gain a fast and reliable alternative to road travel.

Additionally, the new line supports economic growth by improving accessibility to tech parks and business centers. Employees can now enjoy shorter, safer commutes, boosting productivity and work-life balance.

The Yellow Line’s development cost totaled approximately ₹7,160 crore. It is managed by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, ensuring high standards in operation and maintenance.

What Commuters Can Expect

  • 16 stations over 19+ km connecting South Bengaluru to Bommasandra industrial area
  • Three major interchanges enabling smooth transfers to other metro lines
  • Operating hours from 5 AM to 11 PM with affordable fares
  • Future plans to increase train frequency to every 10 minutes
  • Enhanced connectivity to major tech and industrial hubs

This new metro line not only transforms daily travel but also aligns with Bengaluru’s vision for a cleaner, less congested city.
