Integrating AI and Language Technologies for Citizen-Centric Health Services
The MoU focuses on integrating BHASHINI’s advanced language technologies, including translation APIs, speech recognition, and text-to-speech tools, into NHA’s platforms. This initiative will benefit both administrative applications and citizen-facing services under AB PM-JAY and ABDM, enabling seamless communication across linguistic and geographic boundaries.
Highlights of the Chintan Shivir Event
The review meeting brought together senior officials from the Union and State Governments, technical institutions, and implementing agencies to accelerate the adoption of digital health initiatives. The inaugural session witnessed the launch of the Health Benefit Package Manual and a compendium of best practices under AB PM-JAY, along with multiple MoU exchanges with partner institutions.
Shri Mukesh Mahaling, Minister for Health, Government of Odisha, was the Chief Guest, and Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO of Digital India BHASHINI Division, delivered a keynote on “Advancing Digital Health with AI Innovation and Inclusive Language Access.”
AI and Multilingual Solutions to Transform Digital Healthcare
Shri Nag emphasized that AI-driven language solutions are essential for a linguistically diverse country like India. By enabling voice-enabled and multilingual access, the technology ensures that language does not become a barrier for healthcare beneficiaries. These solutions will enhance patient-doctor interactions, support automatic electronic health record creation, improve grievance redressal, and strengthen overall digital health systems.
Shri Kiran Gopal Vaska, Joint Secretary, ABDM, highlighted practical applications of AI in healthcare, including voice-to-text capabilities and natural language processing, which address time constraints faced by doctors while enabling efficient and accurate patient documentation.
Alignment with India’s Digital Health Vision
The MoU aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of integrating Indian languages into digital public infrastructure and advancing AI-enabled governance in the health sector. Through this collaboration, BHASHINI will ensure responsible data governance, secure system integration, and continuous improvement of AI language models based on real-world usage and feedback, supporting India’s goal of inclusive, citizen-centric digital healthcare.
