Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Science City

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Science City on Sunday, located on a sprawling 21-acre site in Rajendra Nagar. The event began with the CM cutting the ribbon and unveiling a commemorative plaque.
After the inauguration, CM Nitish Kumar toured various sections of the science city, inspecting galleries and scientific exhibits spread across the complex. Children attending the event enthusiastically welcomed him. The Secretary of the Building Construction Department, Kumar Ravi, provided detailed insights into the construction process.A short documentary highlighting the construction and development of the science city was also screened for attendees. The facility boasts five major science galleries, 269 interactive exhibits, a state-of-the-art auditorium, a 4D theatre, and dormitory accommodations for students and teachers.

Modern Science Hub with Global Insights

“The science city has been constructed meticulously. I personally inspected the site multiple times and even visited the London Science City to gain valuable insights,” the CM stated. He emphasized that expert consultations were taken to ensure world-class quality and innovative design.

“This center will serve as a hub for science and innovation, attracting visitors of all ages. It is designed to be a unique and modern institution for promoting science and technology, placing Bihar among the top educational destinations in the country,” he added.

Honouring Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Paying tribute to the former President, Nitish Kumar said, “Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had a special affection for Bihar. Naming the Science City after him reflects his commitment to science and education.”

The science city comprises five themed galleries: ‘Be a Scientist’, Sustainable Planet, Basic Science, Body and Mind, and Astronomy and Space. In its first phase, the ‘Be a Scientist’ gallery has 12 interactive exhibits, while the ‘Basic Science’ gallery features 35 exhibits, developed by Creative Museum Designers (CMD) under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).

Project Timeline and Budget

The foundation stone was laid on March 1, 2019, and the Science City was sanctioned with a budget of Rs 889 crore by the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education. The project reflects Bihar’s focus on building modern infrastructure for education and scientific exploration.

Experts and visitors alike expect the science city to become a major attraction, inspiring young minds and fostering innovation in the region.
