Bihar Diwas 2025: Celebrating 113 Years of Heritage, Progress, and Resilience

RR Team, March 22, 2025March 22, 2025

Bihar marked its 113th foundation day today, commemorating its formation as a separate province on March 22, 1912. The day is observed with pride across the state, celebrating its rich history, cultural heritage, and the resilience of its people. Schools, government offices, and institutions remain closed as Bihar Diwas is a public holiday, allowing citizens to participate in various events and celebrations.

The history of Bihar’s formation dates back to the British colonial era when the Bengal Presidency was divided to create the Bihar and Orissa province. The decision was announced during the Delhi Durbar by King George V on December 12, 1911, and came into effect on March 22, 1912. Later, in 1936, Bihar and Orissa were separated into two distinct provinces. Since then, Bihar has emerged as a land of historical significance, home to ancient universities like Nalanda and Vikramshila and deeply connected to the teachings of Lord Buddha.

On this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the people of Bihar, recognizing the state’s contributions to India’s history and its ongoing journey of development. In a heartfelt message, he praised the hardworking and talented people of Bihar and reaffirmed his commitment to the state’s all-round progress. He emphasized that Bihar, which has been a center of culture and tradition, will continue to receive full support for its growth and prosperity.

President Droupadi Murmu also greeted the people of Bihar, acknowledging the state’s historical significance as a center of knowledge and development. She expressed confidence that the determination and hard work of Biharis would contribute to building a stronger Bihar and a developed India.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who initiated the official celebrations of Bihar Diwas in 2010, also extended his congratulations. Highlighting Bihar’s glorious past, he called upon the people to work together for a brighter future and take the state’s pride to new heights.

The occasion is celebrated with enthusiasm through cultural programs, exhibitions, and public events that showcase Bihar’s achievements and aspirations. The day serves as a reminder of the state’s rich legacy while inspiring its people to strive for progress and development.
