Bihar IPS Reshuffle: Patna Gets New SSP, City SPs

Major Bihar IPS Reshuffle: New SSP and City SPs for Patna

In a significant move aimed at strengthening law enforcement, the Bihar government transferred 18 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and one Bihar Police Service (BPS) officer, revamping the state’s police machinery. The reshuffle, announced on June 14, 2025, comes at a crucial time as cities like Patna and Muzaffarpur are facing a surge in criminal activities — from shootings to rape cases.

Key Transfers in Patna: New SSP Takes Charge

Kartikeya K Sharma, a 2014-batch IPS officer and former SP of Purnia, has been appointed as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna. He replaces Awakash Kumar (2012 batch), who has now been posted as the Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)-1 in Patna.

Another crucial appointment in the capital is Chandrashekhar Prasad Vidyarthi (2014 batch), who moves from CID to become the SP (Law & Order) of Patna.

City SPs Reshuffled: Young Officers Step Up

Three 2021-batch IPS officers have been promoted and assigned key city responsibilities:

Diksha becomes City SP (Central), replacing Sweety Sehrawat (2020 batch), who is now SP of Purnia.

Bhanu Pratap Singh moves to City SP (West) from Danapur.

Parichay Kumar takes charge as City SP (East), earlier serving in Ara.

Outgoing City SPs K Ramdas (2019 batch) and Sarath R S (2020 batch) have been posted to Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir, and Supaul respectively.

Muzaffarpur and Other Districts Also See Changes

Muzaffarpur also gets new faces in leadership.

Kota Kiran Kumar (2021 batch) becomes City SP, replacing Vishwajeet Dayal (2017 batch), who is now SP of Jamui.

Rajesh Kumar Singh Prabhakar, a 2009-batch BPS officer, is appointed SP (Rural), Muzaffarpur. He replaces Vidya Sagar (2016 batch), who becomes SP of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), Patna.

Transfers in Headquarters and Other Departments

Shaishav Yadav (2016 batch) moves from Supaul to Patna as Assistant Inspector General (Modernisation).

Madan Kumar Anand (2018 batch) becomes SP at the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission.

Ashok Mishra (2016 batch) takes over the SP Special Branch position.

Additionally, Vineet Kumar (2017 batch) has been appointed SP of Jehanabad. He replaces Arvind Pratap Singh (2018 batch), now SP of Samastipur.

Why This Reshuffle Matters

This sweeping reshuffle underscores the government’s intent to tackle the deteriorating law and order situation in several parts of Bihar. With multiple high-profile crimes being reported recently, the new leadership in Patna and other districts is expected to restore public confidence and improve policing efficiency.

Such periodic rotations also ensure fresh energy and diverse experience in crucial roles — a vital step in modern policing.
