The 21st Battalion was raised on July 20, 1981, under the leadership of Lt Col Mohd Mansoor Mallick. Since its inception, it has stood by the motto “Karam hi Dharma hai”—duty is our religion. This guiding principle has led the battalion through some of the most critical operations in Indian military history.
Brigadier Kamal Deep Jaspal, Commandant of the Bihar Regiment Centre, presided over the event. He laid a wreath at the war memorial and paid tribute to fallen soldiers. From 1999 to 2003, the battalion was deployed in Uri as part of Operation Rakshak. This period tested every soldier’s grit as they faced near-daily infiltration attempts, ambushes, and extreme weather.
