BJP Returns to Power in Delhi After 27 Years, New Chief Minister to Be Announced Today

RR Team, February 19, 2025February 19, 2025

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to usher in a new political chapter in Delhi, ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s decade-long rule with a resounding victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections. With 48 seats secured in the 70-member Assembly, the BJP comfortably crossed the majority mark, marking its return to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years. As the anticipation builds, the party’s MLAs are set to convene for a crucial legislative party meeting at 7 PM today to elect their leader, who will take on the role of Delhi’s Chief Minister.

In a display of confidence and grandeur, the BJP has planned a grand swearing-in ceremony at the iconic Ramlila Maidan on February 20. The event is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), alongside industrialists, social figures, and party workers from across the country. The party has also extended invitations to outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other political figures, underscoring a spirit of democratic transition.

Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are in full swing, with thousands of BJP workers and supporters gathering outside the party office in Delhi. The police and administrative authorities have ramped up security measures, deploying senior officials to oversee the arrangements. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Yadav emphasized the meticulous planning underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, particularly in managing traffic and crowd control.

While speculation continues over who will be chosen as Delhi’s next Chief Minister, the BJP leadership has maintained suspense, stating that the decision will be made collectively by the legislative party and ratified by the party’s parliamentary board. Several senior BJP leaders, including Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankhar, have been appointed as observers for the meeting. The announcement is expected to set the tone for the party’s governance approach in Delhi, with promises of development and a fresh political direction.

The BJP’s victory in Delhi has been a long journey, marked by persistent efforts and strategic recalibration over the years. The party, which was out of power in Delhi since 1998, made significant electoral gains in recent years, inching closer to governance but falling short in previous attempts. This election marks a historic breakthrough, positioning the BJP as the dominant force in Delhi’s political landscape.

As the capital awaits its new leader, the city stands at the cusp of a new era. The coming days will be crucial in shaping Delhi’s governance, as the BJP steps into the role with high expectations and a promise of renewed focus on development and governance.
