Brig (Retd) Dr Raju Agrawal Takes Charge as AIIMS Patna Chief

Patna witnessed a significant leadership transition on Friday as Brigadier (Retd) Dr Raju Agrawal formally took charge as the new executive director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna. He succeeds Dr Saurabh Varshney, who completed his tenure as the institute’s head.

Farewell and Welcome Ceremony

The handover took place during a formal ceremony at AIIMS Patna, where outgoing director Dr Varshney warmly welcomed his successor. The programme also served as a farewell for Dr Varshney, with faculty members, doctors, students, and officials attending in large numbers.

Former directors of AIIMS Patna and AIIMS Kalyani, Dr G K Singh and Dr Ramji Singh, were felicitated on the occasion. The AIIMS-Patna Faculty Club extended its greetings to Dr Agrawal as he stepped into his new role.

Commitment to Growth

In his address, Dr Agrawal outlined his vision for AIIMS Patna, stressing the need to enhance the institute’s identity at both national and international levels. He pledged to focus on strengthening research, academics, and healthcare delivery to ensure that AIIMS Patna continues to serve as a benchmark in medical excellence.

“Our goal is to position AIIMS Patna as a leading institution with a renewed identity, making it a hub for cutting-edge healthcare and research,” he said.

Messages from Outgoing Leadership

Outgoing executive director Dr Varshney, in his farewell speech, reflected on his tenure and thanked colleagues for their support. He urged faculty and staff to extend the same cooperation to Dr Agrawal as the institute enters a new phase of growth.

The deans of academics, research, and student affairs, along with the medical superintendent, also shared their messages during the event. Deputy director (administration) Nilotpal Bal delivered a farewell note in honour of Dr Varshney, while Dr Umesh Kumar Bhadani offered the formal vote of thanks.
