Buddha Purnima 2025: Vice-President’s Message Inspires Peace and Reflection as the Nation Celebrates the Sacred Day

As India and the world observe Buddha Purnima today, marking the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha, the Vice-President of India extended warm greetings to the nation, urging citizens to draw strength and clarity from the timeless teachings of the Buddha.

In his message, the Vice-President described Buddha’s philosophy of non-violence, compassion, and the middle path as a “North Star in challenging times,” offering enduring wisdom in a world facing increasing complexities. He encouraged people to adopt Buddha’s values in daily life, stressing that inner peace and social harmony begin with individual actions rooted in kindness and empathy.

Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak in many parts of South and Southeast Asia, is one of the most spiritually significant days in the Buddhist calendar. It commemorates the life and teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who was born in 623 BC in Lumbini, Nepal, and attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. According to Drik Panchang, this year’s Purnima Tithi began at 8:01 PM on May 11 and will end at 10:25 PM on May 12.

Across the country, the day is being celebrated with devotion and reflection. Temples are adorned with lights, prayer meetings are being held, and devotees are engaging in charity work and acts of compassion. In many households, families are sharing messages inspired by the Buddha’s teachings—of simplicity, mindfulness, and courage in compassion.

The Vice-President’s message adds to the spiritual atmosphere of the day, reminding the nation that Buddha’s wisdom is not just religious philosophy but a guide for moral living and social unity. He emphasized that embracing compassion can help society move closer to peace and mutual understanding.

In a world often torn by conflict and unrest, Buddha Purnima stands as a beacon of hope. It reminds us that despite differences, shared values like empathy, peace, and understanding can bring people together. As millions celebrate across the globe, the teachings of Lord Buddha continue to illuminate the path toward a more compassionate world.
