Canada PM Mark Carney to Visit India for Strategic Talks

Prime Minister of Canada, The Right Honourable Mark Carney, will make his first official visit to India from 27 February to 2 March 2026 at the invitation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, promote trade and investment, and foster collaboration across energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, and innovation sectors.

Visit Schedule and Engagements

Prime Minister Carney will arrive in Mumbai on 27 February, where he will engage in a series of business meetings and industry discussions. Over the following two days, he will meet Indian and Canadian CEOs, financial experts, innovators, educators, and Canadian Pension Funds operating in India, highlighting opportunities for investment and strategic partnerships.

On 1 March, Prime Minister Carney will travel to New Delhi, and on 2 March, he will hold delegation-level talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. The discussions will focus on reviewing the progress of the India–Canada Strategic Partnership, building on earlier meetings in Kananaskis (June 2025) and Johannesburg (November 2025).

Key Areas of Cooperation

The two leaders are expected to deliberate on trade and investment opportunities, energy collaboration, critical minerals development, agricultural partnerships, and research and education initiatives. People-to-people ties, innovation exchanges, and cooperation in emerging technologies will also be central to the discussions.

Additionally, PM Modi and PM Carney will jointly attend the India–Canada CEOs Forum, facilitating dialogue between private sector stakeholders from both countries and promoting new business and investment avenues.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The visit comes at a pivotal time in the normalization of India-Canada relations. Both countries have emphasized a constructive and balanced partnership rooted in mutual respect, strong economic complementarities, and close people-to-people links. The upcoming meetings aim to reaffirm shared priorities and chart a forward-looking roadmap for the India–Canada strategic partnership.
