Hindu groups in Canada are organizing a peaceful protest to condemn recent incidents of “Khalistani intimidation” following attacks on Hindu temples. The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) announced the protest to take place on Monday, calling for unity against rising anti-Hindu sentiments and violence.
The protest will be held at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton and the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey. This comes after violent disruptions at a consular camp in Brampton on Sunday, where, according to the Indian High Commission in Canada, pro-Khalistani groups instigated chaos, endangering Hindu women and children.
“Join us for a peaceful protest tomorrow, November 4th, at 6 PM at Hindu Sabha Temple, Brampton, and Laxmi Narayan Temple, Surrey,” CoHNA announced on social media, urging community members to stand in solidarity against “Khalistani intimidation” and “anti-Hindu hate.”
The Indian High Commission expressed disappointment over the disruptions, emphasizing concern for the safety of Indian nationals attending the consular camp. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the violence, reiterating that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith safely. Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre and MP Chandra Arya echoed these sentiments, with Arya warning of the rise of “brazen violent extremism” in Canada. Trudeau thanked the Peel Regional Police for their swift response to the incident.
