In a significant demonstration of leadership and solidarity, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan visited the headquarters of the Indian Army’s Northern Command in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir, and the Western Command in Chandimandir, Haryana on May 25, 2025. The visit came in the wake of the recently concluded Operation Sindoor, a major military effort aimed at neutralising terror threats and ensuring the safety of India’s borders.

During his interactions with senior military leaders, General Chauhan carried out a comprehensive strategic review and operational assessment of both commands. He was warmly received by Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, who briefed him on the detailed planning and precise execution that led to the success of the operation under highly challenging conditions.
At Udhampur, General Chauhan was informed about the Northern Army’s efforts in dismantling terrorist networks, securing key military and civilian assets, and aiding the rehabilitation of civilians in border areas impacted by enemy aggression. The commitment to both military preparedness and humanitarian outreach was evident in every aspect of the briefing, reflecting the Army’s deep-rooted values of service and sacrifice.
The Western Command, too, presented a thorough overview of its operational strategies. The kinetic and non-kinetic measures taken during Operation Sindoor were reviewed, along with updates on defence readiness and technological advancements that enhanced real-time awareness and logistics efficiency. The Command’s dedication to the welfare of both serving personnel and veterans also received praise from the CDS, underscoring the holistic approach of the Indian Army.
General Chauhan paid heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the operation. He highlighted their courage, discipline, and sense of duty as the cornerstone of India’s defence posture. With visible pride, he commended the synergy among all ranks and the swift and coordinated execution of operational goals.
Reinforcing the need for continued vigilance, he stressed the importance of jointness across all branches of the Armed Forces to counter evolving threats. He also encouraged active participation in supporting the civilians affected by the conflict, showing the human face of India’s military resolve.
