Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, while addressing future strategic leaders at the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Secunderabad, emphasized that survival in today’s battlespace is not about being the fittest but about those who can adapt, transform, and seize emerging opportunities. Speaking to participants of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-20), he shed light on the evolving security landscape of the 21st century and the critical need for resilience, adaptability, and visionary leadership in navigating complex global challenges.
General Chauhan underscored the significance of responding to rapid technological advancements, particularly disruptions caused by artificial intelligence, and the shifting dynamics of global power. He highlighted that modern security threats extend beyond traditional battlefields and require a comprehensive national approach. Stressing the role of the Indian Armed Forces in shaping the country’s security strategy, he called for a collective effort in fostering synergy and integration across all domains of national defense.
In his discussion on national security architecture and change management, General Chauhan elaborated on the ongoing defense reforms aimed at enhancing jointness and operational efficiency within the armed forces. He provided insights into the functioning of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and the forward-looking initiatives designed to modernize military structures. Central to his vision was the articulation of Vision 2047, which aims to shape the long-term trajectory of India’s defense forces through joint doctrines, integrated policies, and the development of a robust Integrated Capability Development Plan. He also highlighted the strides made under the Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) initiative, reinforcing India’s commitment to indigenous defense capabilities.
During his visit, General Chauhan engaged with faculty members and course participants, including officers from friendly foreign nations, fostering discussions on the importance of innovation and collaboration in defense management.
