Central Teams Assess Flood & Landslide Damage

Central Teams Rush to Flood & Landslide-Hit States Amid Heavy Monsoon

MUSSOORIE, 1 Sep 2025: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central government has stepped up support for states affected by this year’s intense monsoon. Heavy rainfall, flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides have caused widespread damage in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

IMCTs Conduct On-the-Spot Damage Assessment

Following directions from Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to all affected states and UTs. These teams evaluate both infrastructure damage and relief operations carried out by state governments. Preliminary assessments have already taken place in Himachal Pradesh with a Multi-Sectoral Team.

Multi-Disciplinary Teams Ensure Comprehensive Coverage

Each IMCT is led by a Joint Secretary-level officer from MHA/NDMA and includes experts from key ministries: Expenditure, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jal Shakti, Power, Road Transport & Highways, and Rural Development. This structure ensures all areas—from roads and electricity to agriculture and essential services—are properly assessed.

Swift Relief Operations with NDRF and Armed Forces

The MHA has provided full logistical support, deploying NDRF teams, Army personnel, and Air Force helicopters. These units assist in search and rescue operations, restoring essential services, and helping affected citizens reach safety.

IMCTs act immediately after disasters without waiting for formal state requests. Their findings guide the Central government’s release of additional funds through the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and other emergency channels.

Significant Financial Assistance to Affected States

In the 2025-26 financial year, the government released:

  • ₹10,498.80 crore from SDRF to 24 states

  • ₹1,988.91 crore from NDRF to 12 states

  • ₹3,274.90 crore from SDMF to 20 states

  • ₹372.09 crore from NDMF to 9 states

These funds have been crucial in stabilizing livelihoods, repairing infrastructure, and providing immediate aid to affected populations.

Government’s Commitment to Resilient Disaster Management

The combined efforts of IMCTs, NDRF, armed forces, and state authorities reflect the government’s commitment to resilient and responsive disaster management. Under PM Modi’s leadership, affected citizens receive timely relief, emphasizing the priority of protecting lives, property, and livelihoods.
