Government Support for States During Disasters
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government continues to provide comprehensive assistance to states affected by natural disasters. Shri Amit Shah highlighted that the Centre remains fully committed to supporting state governments in relief and rescue operations during floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
In the financial year 2025-26, the government has already released ₹13,603.20 crore to 27 states under the SDRF and ₹2,189.28 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 15 states. Additionally, ₹4,571.30 crore has been disbursed from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states, and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states for disaster preparedness and mitigation measures.
Enhanced NDRF Deployment for Monsoon Relief
This year, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed a maximum of 199 teams across 30 states and union territories for rescue and relief operations during the monsoon. These deployments, coordinated with the Army and Air Force, ensured timely assistance and evacuation of affected populations in flood-impacted regions.
The advance SDRF release to Karnataka and Maharashtra will facilitate rapid mobilization of resources, provide temporary shelters, medical aid, and other immediate relief measures. The Centre has emphasized that these proactive measures help states respond efficiently and reduce human and economic losses during natural calamities.
Commitment to Disaster Preparedness and Relief
With increasing climate-related challenges, the government continues to strengthen disaster management frameworks and financial support mechanisms. The SDRF and NDRF allocations, along with logistic support from central agencies, are part of the proactive strategy to safeguard citizens and infrastructure across India.
The Centre’s consistent engagement with state governments underscores India’s focus on resilient disaster management, quick response, and citizen-centric governance, ensuring affected populations receive timely assistance during emergencies.
