Chirag Paswan Visits PLASTINDIA 2026, Releases Industry Report

RR Team, February 9, 2026February 9, 2026
Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan on Monday visited PLASTINDIA 2026, one of the world’s largest and most influential exhibitions for the plastics industry, currently underway at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The six-day global event, scheduled from February 5 to February 10, 2026, has brought together industry leaders, innovators, policymakers and global buyers, reflecting India’s growing prominence in the global plastics ecosystem.

During his visit, the Union Minister released the much-anticipated Plastic Industry Status Report 2025, a comprehensive document that captures the current landscape, growth trajectory, export potential and sustainability transition of India’s plastics sector. He also presented awards to winners of the Startup Search Initiative, a joint effort of the Plastindia Foundation and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, aimed at nurturing innovation-driven enterprises in the plastics value chain.

Focus on Sustainability and Technology

Addressing industry stakeholders, policymakers and entrepreneurs, Shri Chirag Paswan underlined the urgent need to minimise waste generation and adopt advanced technologies to make the plastics industry more sustainable. He said that innovation and responsible manufacturing are essential for aligning industrial growth with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.

The Minister appreciated the industry’s ongoing efforts to balance economic expansion with environmental responsibility. He noted that sustainable manufacturing practices not only reduce ecological impact but also strengthen India’s global competitiveness while contributing to self-reliance and job creation.

PLASTINDIA 2026 Highlights India’s Global Role

Organised by the Plastindia Foundation, PLASTINDIA 2026 has emerged as a major platform showcasing India’s capabilities across the plastics value chain. The exhibition features cutting-edge machinery, sustainable materials, recycling technologies and digital manufacturing solutions, drawing participation from both domestic and international stakeholders.

The event has facilitated knowledge exchange between global buyers and Indian manufacturers, reinforcing India’s position as a reliable hub for plastic products, machinery and innovation-led solutions. Policymakers attending the exhibition have also engaged with industry leaders to discuss regulatory clarity, sustainability standards and export growth.

Industry Report and Startup Recognition

Shri Ravish Kamath, President of the Plastindia Foundation, said the Plastic Industry Status Report 2025 provides valuable insights into sectoral performance, export trends and the industry’s gradual shift toward sustainability. He added that the report is expected to serve as a key reference for policymakers, investors and industry participants.

Shri Alok Tibrewala, Chairman of the National Executive Committee for PLASTINDIA 2026, highlighted the importance of the Startup Search Initiative. Under the theme “Bharat Next,” ten startups were shortlisted from over 150 applicants and awarded ₹2 lakh each. These startups focus on innovation-led, sustainable and scalable solutions for the plastics sector.

Driving Growth Through Innovation

Industry leaders noted that initiatives such as PLASTINDIA and the Startup Search programme are critical for building an innovation-driven manufacturing ecosystem. By encouraging startups and technology adoption, the sector aims to address challenges related to waste management, recycling and resource efficiency.

With continued policy support, industry collaboration and a focus on sustainability, the plastics sector is expected to play a significant role in India’s manufacturing growth story while aligning with global environmental goals.
