Nitish Kumar Launches ₹8,716 Cr Rural Road Project

RR Team, May 13, 2025June 24, 2025

Nitish Kumar Launches ₹8,716 Cr Rural Road Upgrade Plan in Bihar

In a major push for rural development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday launched a massive initiative to strengthen 6,938 rural roads. The ₹8,716 crore project will upgrade over 12,000 kilometers of road under the Rural Road Strengthening and Management Programme.

Focus on Connectivity and Dignity

Speaking at the ‘Sankalp’ Hall in his Patna residence, Nitish Kumar praised the work of the Rural Works Department. He emphasized that strong rural roads are not just about infrastructure—they are critical for social justice and economic progress.

“Villagers deserve roads that are strong, safe, and accessible throughout the year,” the CM said.

He directed officials to finish urgent repairs before the monsoon to avoid isolation in remote areas due to flooding or road damage.

A Vision to Link Villages with Patna

Kumar also shared a bold vision: to connect even the most remote villages to Patna in under four hours. He said better roads would bring dignity, mobility, and opportunity to Bihar’s rural population.

“We want every villager to have access to education, healthcare, and markets,” he added.

Department Shares Plans and Updates

Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Rural Works Department, presented updates on several flagship schemes. These include:

  • Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana

  • Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana

He reported that in 2024–25, over 14,000 rural roads covering 24,482 km will be renewed. These roads had completed their maintenance life and are now ready for strengthening. The estimated cost for this phase is ₹21,733 crore.

Event Highlights

The CM also released a booklet showing progress under key infrastructure schemes. A short documentary showcased the achievements of the Rural Works Department.

The event had a tone of administrative urgency, but also compassion—driven by the idea that no villager should be left behind.
