Congratulating the CIL family, the Minister lauded the dedication of the “Coal Warriors” who have powered India’s energy sector for five decades. He described Coal India as the nation’s “Energy Lifeline,” playing a vital role in ensuring energy security and driving industrial growth.
Minister Highlights Innovation and Diversification
In his address, Shri Reddy praised Coal India’s journey from manual mining to automation-driven production. He emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancement and innovation to meet India’s growing energy needs. As India transitions towards cleaner energy, he urged CIL to diversify its portfolio through coal gasification, renewable energy projects, and critical mineral exploration.
The Minister also stressed the need for enhanced employee welfare and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to foster inclusive growth. He called on CIL to continue delivering high-quality coal while ensuring worker safety and environmental sustainability.
Launch of Coal Atlas and Corporate Awards
During the event, Shri Reddy virtually released the Coal Atlas, developed by CMPDI, a subsidiary of Coal India. The Atlas offers high-precision geological mapping of Indian coalfields, resource assessments, and detailed data on coal quality and reserves. It aims to assist policymakers, researchers, and industry experts with reliable, data-driven insights.
He also presented Corporate Excellence Awards to recognize exceptional contributions in operational efficiency, safety, and innovation during FY 2023–24, celebrating the dedication and achievements of CIL’s workforce.
New Projects and Technology Integration
The Minister inaugurated the Gopinathpur and Chinakuri MDO Projects of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), which will operate under a revenue-sharing model. Additionally, he launched the Integrated Control and Command Center (ICCC) of ECL, a cutting-edge facility leveraging AI-powered surveillance and monitoring systems for real-time operational management and safety oversight.
Commitment to Sustainable and Self-Reliant Growth
Speaking at the occasion, Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal and Chairman, CIL, highlighted the company’s rich legacy and contribution to India’s energy ecosystem. He noted that CIL currently meets around 55% of the nation’s energy needs through mechanized mining operations and is steadily diversifying into cleaner energy domains.
As Coal India embarks on its 51st year, it aims to strengthen India’s energy independence while ensuring a sustainable, carbon-conscious, and technologically advanced future.
