On September 23, 2024, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal kicked off his official visit to Australia with a series of key meetings and interactions in Sydney. The day was packed with productive engagements aimed at strengthening economic ties and exploring collaborative opportunities between India and Australia.
At a business roundtable organized by the Business Council of Australia, Minister Goyal interacted with top executives from both Indian and Australian companies. He invited Australian business leaders to seize the growing opportunities in India, emphasizing the country’s consistent economic growth.
The Minister also held discussions with representatives from Australian pension funds, highlighting India’s investor-friendly policies and reforms. He encouraged greater investments in sectors like renewable energy, manufacturing, education, fintech, and agritech, which are rapidly evolving in India.
In another significant meeting, Minister Goyal met with Tania Constable, CEO of the Minerals Council of Australia, to discuss deepening cooperation in the critical minerals sector. He also explored opportunities to boost coastal tourism in India during talks with Joel Katz, Managing Director of Cruise Lines International Association.
Additionally, the Minister discussed India’s rapid digital transformation with Robin Khuda, Founder & CEO of AirTrunk, focusing on potential collaborations in data infrastructure between the two nations.
The Centre for Australia-India Relations hosted a luncheon in his honor, attended by key members of their Director network. Later, the Minister engaged with the Indian community at a reception at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, hosted by the Consulate General of India. During the event, he offered prayers at the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Parramatta, reflecting on his previous visit in 2022.
Before heading to Adelaide on September 24, Minister Goyal is set to attend a reception hosted by the Australia-India Business Council and NSW Parliamentary Friends of India at the New South Wales Parliament, where various political and business leaders will be present.
