Celebrating a Decade of Make in India
The “Make in India” initiative completed 10 years with a special event led by Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal. He called on industry leaders to promote Brand India by focusing on quality manufacturing. This vision supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of “Zero Defect; Zero Effect”—making products that are flawless and eco-friendly.
Industry Leaders and PLI Scheme Success
More than 140 CEOs, all beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, joined the interactive session. Shri Goyal praised these companies for creating jobs and strengthening India’s role as a global manufacturing hub. The PLI Scheme has helped attract investments and encouraged innovation across many sectors.
Boosting Domestic Value Addition
Shri Goyal urged industries to increase domestic value addition. He emphasized supporting local manufacturers to build a stronger supply chain within India. The minister also encouraged continuous dialogue between businesses and the government. This cooperation aims to ease technology transfers and boost foreign partnerships through agencies like Invest India.
CEOs Share Feedback and Insights
The CEOs shared their experiences with the PLI Scheme. They offered suggestions to make the program more effective. Shri Goyal assured them that the government is committed to speeding up approvals and providing ongoing support. The goal is to improve market access for all PLI beneficiaries.
Impressive Growth Under the PLI Scheme
The PLI Scheme has driven significant growth in key sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and automobiles. Actual investments have reached Rs. 1.46 lakh crore by August 2024. Projections expect this to cross Rs. 2 lakh crore soon. Production value under the scheme totals around Rs. 12.5 lakh crore.
The scheme has also helped create nearly 9.5 lakh jobs. Exports from PLI-supported industries have exceeded Rs. 4 lakh crore. This growth shows how the scheme boosts both domestic production and international trade.
Sector-Wise Highlights
Mobile phone manufacturing has tripled its exports. The pharmaceutical industry has reduced dependence on imports by increasing local production. Newer sectors like drones and solar PV modules are growing fast, making India more competitive globally.
Food processing supports sustainable farming practices. The automobile industry is advancing electric vehicle production. Medical devices like CT scanners are now produced domestically thanks to technology transfers under the scheme.
Prime Minister Modi’s Vision and Mann Ki Baat
During the event, participants listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 114th “Mann Ki Baat.” The Prime Minister praised the Make in India initiative for transforming India into a global manufacturing power. He highlighted sectors such as defense, textiles, aviation, and automobiles for their rapid growth.
