New Delhi, June 2, 2025:
India reported 203 new COVID-19 cases and four more deaths on June 1, bringing the country’s total number of active cases to 3,961 and the death toll to 32 since January 2025. Health officials from the Centre and various states have assured the public that all precautions are being taken to manage the situation.
According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the number of infections continues to rise gradually, prompting states like Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Karnataka to increase monitoring and implement preventive measures.
State-Wise Updates: Cases and Deaths

Delhi: Reported 47 new cases and 1 death. The national capital now has 483 active cases.

Kerala: Registered 35 new cases, pushing its active case count to 1,435 — the highest in the country.

Maharashtra: Reported 21 new infections and 1 death, with 506 active cases in the state.

West Bengal: Confirmed 44 new cases, increasing its active count to 331.

Tamil Nadu: Also reported 1 death, although new case numbers were not specified.
Centre’s Response: ‘Prepared for Any Situation’
Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, addressed concerns on May 30, assuring the public that the Centre is fully prepared to manage the current wave of COVID-19.
“We are in constant touch with state health departments and are monitoring the situation closely. The infrastructure set up during previous waves—like oxygen plants, ICU beds, and emergency systems—has been reviewed and is ready for use,” Jadhav told ANI.
He further stated that the AYUSH Ministry is also involved in ensuring holistic health support and preventive care across states.
Precautionary Measures in Schools
In response to rising cases, Karnataka’s Health Department issued a circular to all government and private schools, advising them to follow safety guidelines to protect students. The instructions include:

Children showing symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold should not attend school.

Schools are advised to ensure timely medical care for any student showing symptoms.

Hygiene protocols such as regular handwashing, sanitization, and distancing (where possible) should be reinforced.
Vaccines and Variants: Growing Concerns
The recent rise in infections comes amid concerns about new COVID-19 variants and low vaccine stock in some areas. Health experts are urging citizens to remain cautious and follow safety protocols, especially in crowded or poorly ventilated places.
On the global front, the US FDA recently approved a new low-dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, potentially offering more flexible protection against emerging strains.
