CSIR-IIP Celebrates Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav 2025, Fostering a Culture of Innovation and Intellectual Property Awareness

In a spirited celebration of creativity, innovation, and knowledge, the CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), Dehradun, observed the Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav (RBSM) 2025 on May 29, 2025. This meaningful event, held under the banner of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, is a continued effort to spread awareness about the importance of intellectual property (IP) in shaping India’s future.

The atmosphere at the institute was filled with pride and purpose as the event began with the traditional lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana—an invocation to the goddess of wisdom. These symbolic gestures set the tone for a day dedicated to celebrating the intellect and innovation that define our nation’s progress.

Dr. Deepti Agrawal, In-charge of the Intellectual Property Management Group (IPMG) at CSIR-IIP, opened the program with warm remarks, emphasizing the growing importance of intellectual property rights in today’s knowledge-driven economy. Following her, Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-IIP, offered a heartfelt address that resonated with the young researchers and seasoned scientists present, urging them to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation.

The highlight of the day was an engaging talk by Dr. Kapil Arya from the CSIR-Innovation Protection Unit, New Delhi. In his session titled “Feel the Beat of Intellectual Property Rights,” Dr. Arya broke down the often-complex world of patents into accessible insights, sparking lively interaction with the attending scientists and research scholars. His session not only demystified the fundamentals of patenting but also encouraged participants to think of intellectual property as a tool for empowerment and growth.

Adding to the depth of the discussions, Dr. N. Vishwanadham, Chairman of the Patent and Publication Committee (PPC), shared his experiences on the crucial role played by patents in protecting innovation. He highlighted the diverse technologies developed at CSIR-IIP, showing how scientific research, when coupled with robust IP protection, can lead to impactful real-world applications.

In a bid to make learning fun and participatory, an online quiz competition on intellectual property was also conducted, drawing enthusiastic responses from students and researchers alike. The quiz served not only as a test of knowledge but also as a reminder of how important it is to stay informed and proactive in the ever-evolving IP landscape.

The Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav 2025 at CSIR-IIP was more than just an academic event. It was a warm and inspiring reminder of the power of ideas, and the need to nurture and protect them for the greater good of the nation. Through events like this, India continues to foster a culture where innovation is celebrated, and knowledge is seen not just as a personal asset, but as a shared national treasure.
