Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), valued at ₹2,236 crore. These projects include the construction of seven roads and 12 bridges in Jammu and Kashmir, costing ₹731.22 crore. The virtual event was also attended by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who participated from his constituency in J&K.
Some key road projects in Jammu & Kashmir include the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Khojipur road (₹73.26 crore), sections of the Basoli-Bani-Bhaderwah road (₹97.76 crore and ₹81.42 crore), and the Galhar-Sansari road (₹37.69 crore), all built under BRO’s Project Sampark. Additionally, significant investments have been made in the Bandipur-Gureiz road (₹230.54 crore) and Mohura-Baaz road (₹134.99 crore), under Project Beacon.
In addition to these roads, 12 bridges were constructed across various regions of J&K, costing ₹51.21 crore, further improving connectivity in remote areas.
The projects span 11 border states and union territories, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The ceremony was held at Sukna in West Bengal, where the Defence Minister inaugurated a total of 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two other projects. These infrastructure developments were completed despite challenging conditions, such as difficult terrain and harsh weather.
During the event, Singh praised the BRO for their commitment to enhancing connectivity in remote regions. He noted that over the past five years, the BRO has completed 450 infrastructure projects worth more than ₹16,000 crore. In 2024 alone, with the completion of these 75 new projects, the BRO has delivered a total of 111 infrastructure projects this year.
The Defence Minister commended the organisation for its remarkable pace and efficiency in executing these projects, highlighting BRO’s unparalleled contributions in building over 40% of the roads in high-altitude areas with extreme weather and challenging conditions. He emphasized BRO’s dedication to its mission of “Connecting Places, Connecting People.”
