Delhi HC Summons Priya Kapur in ₹30,000-Crore Estate Dispute

RR Team, September 10, 2025September 10, 2025
The Delhi High Court has issued summons to Priya Kapur in a high-profile inheritance case concerning the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000-crore estate. The petition has been filed by his children from his second marriage with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor — Samaira Kapur (20) and Kiaan Raj Kapur (15) — who allege wrongful exclusion from their father’s will.

The Court’s Directions

A bench led by Justice Jyoti Singh has asked Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife, to submit a complete list of her late husband’s assets. While the court declined to impose an immediate status quo on the properties, it scheduled the next hearing for October 9, 2025. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, stated that the proceedings will focus on discovering details about Kapur’s personal wealth.

Background of the Dispute

Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on June 12, 2025, in the UK after a sudden heart attack during a polo match, left behind an estate valued at nearly ₹30,000 crore. His will, dated March 21, 2025, reportedly leaves all his assets to Priya Kapur. Karisma Kapoor’s children claim that the will was manipulated and excludes them as natural heirs.

The suit names Priya Kapur, her minor son, Kapur’s mother Rani Kapur, and executor Shradha Suri Marwah as defendants. It further alleges that two individuals, Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, assisted in forging the will.

Children’s Allegations

The plaintiffs argue that they maintained a close bond with their father, actively participating in his business and personal life. They allege that Priya Kapur initially claimed Sunjay’s wealth was managed under the R K Family Trust but later produced a will that transferred complete ownership to herself, sidelining other heirs.

The lawsuit demands that Samaira and Kiaan be recognized as Class I legal heirs under Indian succession law. They seek a court decree granting each a one-fifth share of Sunjay’s estate, along with an interim order freezing all personal assets until the dispute is resolved.

What Lies Ahead

The case underscores the complexities of inheritance battles among India’s business elite. With the stakes running into thousands of crores, the October hearing is expected to be closely watched by legal and corporate circles alike. The outcome may set a significant precedent in high-value family estate disputes.
