Air Quality Improvement Triggers Revocation
Stage-II GRAP had been activated on 19 October 2025 after Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) began trending upward. Recent data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows a significant decline in daily AQI readings: from 261 on 16 February 2026 to 249 on 17 February, reaching 214 on 18 February.
The CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP, after reviewing meteorological forecasts and AQI data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), concluded that favorable weather conditions contributed to this improvement.
Stage-I Measures Remain in Force
Although Stage-II actions have been lifted, all preventive and restrictive measures under Stage-I will continue to be enforced. Agencies responsible for implementation have been directed to maintain vigilance and intensify monitoring to ensure AQI levels do not worsen.
The Sub-Committee emphasized continuous monitoring and will reassess the situation as new AQI readings and forecasts become available.
Looking Ahead: AQI Forecasts
According to IMD/IITM projections, Delhi-NCR’s air quality is expected to remain in the ‘Poor’ to ‘Moderate’ category over the coming days. Citizens are advised to continue following recommended safety measures, especially vulnerable groups such as children, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
