Delhi Police and DMRC Issue Advisory for Smooth New Year’s Eve Celebrations

New Delhi: As the city gears up to welcome the New Year, the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have issued traffic and metro advisories to ensure smooth and safe celebrations on December 31. Popular hotspots like Connaught Place, India Gate, and Hauz Khas are expected to see large crowds, prompting the authorities to implement strict measures for traffic control and public safety.

Traffic Arrangements and Restrictions

The Delhi Traffic Police has deployed around 2,500 personnel across the city, supported by 11 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, 40 motorcycle patrol units, and an equal number of foot patrol teams. Approximately 250 teams will focus on checking drunken driving.

From 8 PM until the end of celebrations, traffic restrictions will be enforced in and around Connaught Place. Only vehicles with valid passes will be allowed access to the inner, middle, and outer circles. Key access points, including Mandi House and Bengali Market, will be cordoned off for general traffic.

Designated parking areas near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas will face towing and fines.

Metro Services and Restrictions

The DMRC has announced restrictions for the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, a central hub near Connaught Place. Exit from the station will not be permitted after 9 PM, though entry will remain open until the departure of the last train.

“To ease overcrowding on New Year’s Eve, exit from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will not be allowed after 9 PM. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly,” stated the DMRC. Metro services on the rest of the network will operate as per the usual schedule.

Alternate Routes and Travel Advice

For those traveling to New Delhi Railway Station, alternative routes such as Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road have been suggested to avoid congestion. Commuters have been advised to steer clear of Mathura Road and Bhairon Road, which are prone to traffic jams near Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan.

Authorities recommend using the metro for seamless travel across the city and avoiding unnecessary vehicle use near crowded areas.

Delhi Police has urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with traffic regulations. With proactive measures and adequate personnel deployment, the city aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all residents and visitors.
