Delhi Police Escorts 3 Accused from Himachal After Standoff

After a day-long standoff with Himachal Pradesh Police, Delhi Police are transporting three accused in the AI Summit protest case from Shimla to Delhi. The accused Saurabh Singh (28) from Amethi, Siddharth Avadhoot (33) from Tilak Nagar, and Arbaaz Khan (24) from Sultanpur were arrested following a tense confrontation over the legal procedure of their detention.
The standoff began early morning near Rohru, around 120 km from Shimla, when Delhi Police detained the three from a resort in Chirgaon Mandali. Himachal Police immediately set up blockades at ISBT Shimla, Shoghi, and Dharampur in Solan district, challenging the legality of the arrests.

Following prolonged legal arguments, the local court granted transit remand to Delhi Police at 1 am, allowing the accused to be transported to Delhi. The accused underwent medical examinations at Ambala Civil Hospital before proceeding to the national capital.

The court proceedings highlighted issues regarding due process and proper documentation. Himachal Police emphasized procedural lapses, while the defense claimed illegal detention and inadequate medical checks. Advocate Nand Lal Thakur, representing Delhi Police, confirmed that the accused will be produced before the competent Delhi court upon arrival.

This high-profile case has drawn significant attention due to the clash between two state police forces over jurisdiction and procedure. The accused are linked to protests held during the AI Summit, and Delhi Police are reportedly transporting a Thar vehicle associated with the case.

The resolution of this standoff underscores the importance of inter-state coordination in sensitive law enforcement matters, ensuring that legal procedures are respected while maintaining public order.
