Dharmendra Pradhan Launches 55 Timeless Works

RR Team, January 6, 2026January 6, 2026
Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan released 55 literary works in classical Indian languages, including Tamil, Odia, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Indian Sign Language, at an event held in New Delhi on 6 January 2026. The releases include 41 books developed by the Centres of Excellence for Classical Languages under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), along with 13 books and a Tirukkural Sign Language series by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT).
The collection features significant scholarly works across Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, and Tamil, as well as an interpretation of the Tirukkural in Indian Sign Language. These publications are part of a broader national initiative to place India’s linguistic heritage at the core of education and research, fostering cultural pride and engagement with classical knowledge traditions.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Pradhan highlighted the Government’s extensive efforts under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to strengthen and promote all Indian languages. He noted initiatives such as including additional languages in the scheduled list, translating classical texts, and encouraging education in Indian languages, which have preserved India’s linguistic legacy through time.

Shri Pradhan emphasized that India’s linguistic diversity is a source of unity and strength, and stressed the need for society to preserve historical, cultural, and literary wealth for future generations. He stated that Indian languages serve as a bridge for dialogue and cultural harmony, contrasting them with the colonial-era Macaulay mindset.

The inclusion of the Tirukkural in Indian Sign Language underscores the vision of an inclusive India, ensuring access to knowledge for all. Shri Pradhan also praised the efforts of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, the Centres of Excellence, CIIL, and CICT in promoting Indian languages.

The event was attended by senior officials including Shri Vineet Joshi, Secretary (Higher Education), Shri Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Prof. Shailendra Mohan, Director of CIIL, and Prof. R. Chandrasekaran, Director of CICT, along with other Ministry of Education officials.

These releases mark a significant step in promoting India’s rich linguistic heritage, highlighting the importance of classical languages in education, research, and cultural preservation. By bridging traditional knowledge with modern inclusivity, these publications serve as a resource for scholars, students, and the wider community.
