U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to avoid further escalation in the ongoing Ukraine conflict, according to a Washington Post report from November 10, 2024. Representatives from Trump’s team indicated that he is open to further discussions to help bring a swift resolution to the war.
The conversation occurred on Thursday, November 7, 2024, just days after Trump’s unexpected victory over Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump reportedly highlighted the presence of American military forces in Europe and expressed his desire to explore peaceful solutions to end the nearly three-year conflict.
While Trump’s team has not commented directly, Kremlin officials noted “positive signals” in his approach to the Ukraine crisis. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked, “At least he’s talking about peace, not confrontation.”
Trump’s election has sparked speculation about potential shifts in U.S. policy, as he has consistently advocated for a quick end to the conflict and questioned the extensive financial support that Washington has provided to Kyiv.
