DPIIT Unveils Digital Sponsorship Module for e-B4 Visa

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has launched an online digital module allowing Indian companies to generate sponsorship letters for foreign professionals under the e-Production Investment Business Visa (e-B4 Visa). The initiative, launched on 29th November 2025, is part of India’s broader reforms to improve ease of doing business and streamline foreign talent engagement.

Key Features of the e-B4 Visa and Digital Module

The e-B4 Visa is designed for foreign professionals, engineers, technical experts, and senior management personnel involved in production-related activities in India. This includes installation and commissioning of equipment, quality control, production oversight, IT and ERP ramp-up, training, supply chain development, plant design, and executive visits.

The newly launched DPIIT module on the National Single Window System (NSWS) allows companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) to instantly generate sponsorship letters online. Auto-populated data and authentication through databases like MCA and GSTN remove the requirement for line ministry approval, significantly simplifying the visa application process.

Streamlining Business Visa Processes

Previously, installation and commissioning activities required an employment visa. The Ministry of Home Affairs, in August 2025, reclassified such activities under the business visa regime, eliminating redundancies and creating the Production Investment Visa (B-4 Visa). Existing e-PLI business visas were also dispensed with, integrating the process into the e-B4 category.

The digital sponsorship letter is linked via API to the e-Visa portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in), providing a unique ID that foreign professionals can reference when applying. This integration ensures seamless processing, faster approvals, and reduced bureaucratic steps for foreign talent entering India.
