Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya Engages Indian Diaspora in Malaysia

Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, interacted with the Indian workers’ diaspora in Malaysia on October 3, 2025. During the meeting, he lauded the diaspora for their significant contributions to both Malaysia and India’s development journey, underscoring their role in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Malaysia is home to the world’s third-largest Indian diaspora, with over 2.9 million people of Indian origin. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted how the community has maintained its cultural heritage while excelling in various sectors, thereby strengthening India–Malaysia ties and contributing to Malaysia’s progress.

Strengthening India–Malaysia Economic Partnership

The Minister emphasized the robust economic linkages between the two countries. Over 150 Indian companies, including three public sector undertakings, operate in Malaysia. Similarly, nearly 70 Malaysian companies are engaged in India across sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, telecommunications, oil & gas, power, and tourism.

Dr. Mandaviya noted that these business interactions have created employment opportunities and fostered mutual economic growth, highlighting the pivotal role of the diaspora in facilitating cross-border trade and investments.

Government Support for Indian Workers Abroad

The Minister reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Indian workers overseas. He cited the MoU on Recruitment, Employment and Repatriation of Workers signed with Malaysia in August 2024 as a landmark measure to protect workers’ rights.

He encouraged workers to avail benefits under the Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana, which provides comprehensive insurance coverage for overseas Indian workers, including protection against accidental death, disability, medical emergencies, and repatriation of remains.

Assuring Diaspora of Continued Support

Addressing the diaspora, Dr. Mandaviya stated, “We are committed to ensuring that your rights are protected, your voices are heard, and your families back home remain secure.” He highlighted that the Indian government will continue to work closely with the community to provide timely assistance, ensuring their safety, welfare, and contribution to India’s growth remain recognised and supported.
