DRI Busted Alprazolam Factory in Valsad; ₹22 Cr Drugs Seized

Valsad, Gujarat – In a significant crackdown on synthetic drug manufacturing, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a clandestine Alprazolam production unit in a remote area off Gujarat State Highway 701, Valsad. The operation, codenamed “Operation White Cauldron”, resulted in the seizure of drugs worth ₹22 crore and the arrest of four individuals, including financiers, manufacturers, and the intended recipient of the narcotic.

Swift Intelligence-Led Action

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers monitored the facility discreetly before conducting a coordinated raid on 4th November 2025. The team uncovered a fully operational illegal manufacturing setup, seizing:

  • 9.55 kg of finished Alprazolam
  • 104.15 kg of semi-finished Alprazolam
  • 431 kg of raw chemicals, including p-Nitrochlorobenzene, Phosphorous Pentasulfide, Ethyl Acetate, and Hydrochloric Acid
  • Industrial-scale equipment such as reactors, centrifuge, refrigeration units, and heating mantles

The operation led to the apprehension of two key masterminds involved in manufacturing and financing, one production assistant, and the recipient who had travelled from Telangana.

Pattern of Illicit Supply to Telangana

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Alprazolam manufactured was intended for distribution in Telangana, potentially for mixing in Toddy. Earlier, in August 2025, DRI had dismantled a similar Alprazolam unit in Atchuthapuram, Anakapalli District, Andhra Pradesh, where 119.4 kg of the drug was seized, also destined for Telangana.

DRI’s Vigilance and Commitment

This year alone, DRI has dismantled four clandestine drug manufacturing units, highlighting its relentless efforts in line with the Government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. These intelligence-driven operations underscore DRI’s operational excellence and unwavering commitment to protecting citizens from narcotic and psychotropic substances.
