ECI Holds Workshop to Strengthen Electoral Communication

RR Team, September 13, 2025September 13, 2025
The Election Commission of India (ECI) organised a one-day workshop for Media and Communication Officers of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) offices from all 36 states and Union Territories on 12 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The workshop aimed to strengthen communication, promote factual reporting, and counter misleading information in the lead-up to elections.

Key Participants and Inaugural Session

Fifty-one Media Nodal Officers (MNOs) and Social Media Nodal Officers (SMNOs) participated in the programme. The inaugural session was addressed by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. The leaders emphasised the critical importance of communicating facts clearly and countering misinformation to uphold the integrity of India’s electoral process.

Focus on Fact-Based Communication

Amid rising concerns about misinformation, the workshop highlighted strategies for timely dissemination of factual information to media outlets and stakeholders. Sessions were designed to enhance the communication ecosystem within CEO offices, ensuring officials can provide accurate updates and counter misleading narratives effectively.

Electoral Roll Revision and Misinformation Tools

Dedicated sessions covered the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, focusing on how media and social media officers can report and communicate updates accurately. An expert session explored tools, techniques, and strategies to counter false information and misinformation in the electoral space, strengthening public trust in election processes.

Continuing Engagement and Orientation

This workshop marked the third such engagement by the ECI for media officers. Previous orientation programmes were held at the Indian Institute of Digital Education & Management (IIIDEM) on 9 April and 5 June 2025. The initiative reflects the Commission’s ongoing commitment to leveraging effective communication and media outreach to ensure transparency and integrity in Indian elections.
