Formal Recognition for Educators
The RPL initiative aims to formally acknowledge the expertise of teachers, instructors, and trainers working with persons with visual and hearing impairments. These certifications will elevate professional standards, strengthen credibility, and encourage the integration of assistive technologies in classrooms.

Key RPL Programs

- RPL in ICT & Assistive Technologies for instructors of Persons with Visual Impairment, including Computer, Music, Physical Education, and Science/STEM teachers.
- RPL Certification in Teaching Computer Literacy Skills to Children with Hearing Impairment (CWHI) using Indian Sign Language (ISL).
- RPL Certification in ISL Interpretation for Cricket Commentary (CISLI-CC), a pioneering program to train ISL cricket commentators for IPL and international tournaments.
- RPL Certification in Teaching English Literacy Skills for CWHI.
These short-term programs aim to assess, enhance, and certify the skills of educators while bridging learning gaps for PwDs across India.
Assistive Device Distribution Camps
In collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), 75 distribution camps will provide high-quality aids and assistive devices to over 40,000 beneficiaries, with a total value exceeding Rs. 38 crores. These devices will directly improve accessibility and learning outcomes for PwDs nationwide.
Training Mechanics for Assistive Device Maintenance
DEPwD, in partnership with ALIMCO, is also introducing specialized training programs for local cycle and e-rickshaw mechanics. Participants will learn to repair and maintain assistive devices, including motorized tricycles, manual tricycles, and wheelchairs. Successful candidates will receive certification as “Trained by ALIMCO”, creating a network of skilled mechanics across urban and rural India.
This initiative ensures timely maintenance of mobility aids, enhances service availability, promotes skill development, and offers livelihood opportunities to local mechanics.
Impact and Vision
By empowering educators, interpreters, and mechanics, the initiative strengthens inclusive education, promotes independence among PwDs, and enhances vocational readiness. It also supports a more accessible ecosystem for teaching science, music, technology, sports, and languages to learners with hearing and visual impairments.
DEPwD’s RPL and allied programs underscore the government’s commitment to inclusion, skill development, and equitable access for Persons with Disabilities across India.
