As the results of the Delhi Assembly elections unfolded, a moment of unexpected emotion emerged in the household of poet and former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas. His wife, who usually keeps away from political affairs, broke into tears upon hearing about the defeat of Manish Sisodia, a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal and a key figure in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, Vishwas was quick to clarify that her tears were not out of sympathy.
Recalling a past conversation between his wife and Sisodia, Vishwas shared how she had once warned the AAP leader that power is fleeting. According to Vishwas, Sisodia had then responded with confidence, saying, “Abhi toh hai” (I am in power today). This remark, Vishwas implied, symbolized a sense of overconfidence that had now come crashing down with the electoral defeat.
Sisodia, who had been contesting from the Jangpura constituency, lost to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah. The former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister was already embroiled in legal troubles, facing charges in the alleged liquor policy scam. His loss was not the only significant setback for AAP—Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself suffered a shocking defeat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi constituency.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a resounding victory, marking the end of AAP’s rule in Delhi, Vishwas did not hold back in his criticism of Kejriwal. Expressing his lack of sympathy, he accused the former Chief Minister of betraying the dreams of AAP’s workers for personal political gains. He described the election outcome as “justice delivered,” portraying Kejriwal’s fall as an inevitable consequence of his leadership style.
Kejriwal’s political journey, which began with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement and saw AAP rise as a major force in Delhi, now faces an uncertain future. The election results reflect a dramatic shift in the capital’s political landscape, ending 27 years of BJP’s absence from power in Delhi.
