Interactive Deliberations with Stakeholders
The Shivir saw participation from senior officials of the Department of Fertilizers, state governments, scientists, and industry representatives. They engaged in detailed discussions with Union Minister Shri J.P. Nadda and Minister of State Smt. Anupriya Patel. The interactive format allowed 15 specialized groups to share insights on topics ranging from new-age fertilizers, self-sufficiency in fertilizer production, farmer outreach, digital tools in the fertilizer ecosystem, and the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme.
Fertilizer Secretary Shri Rajat Kumar Mishra highlighted the collaborative nature of the event, noting that government agencies, public sector units (PSUs), and private sector stakeholders placed farmers at the center of deliberations to generate actionable recommendations.
Government Ensures Seamless Fertilizer Supply
Addressing attendees, Shri Nadda emphasized that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently kept farmers at the core of governance. “Our policies must aim to make the life of the farmer easier and better,” he said. Despite various challenges, the Department of Fertilizers has ensured uninterrupted fertilizer supply, combining record domestic production with strategic imports to meet farmers’ requirements.
The Minister also underlined the government’s focus on tackling issues such as balanced fertilizer use and preventing diversion for non-agricultural purposes, ensuring the agricultural sector remains sustainable and productive.
Vision for India as Global Food Basket
Minister of State Smt. Anupriya Patel remarked that the Prime Minister envisions India becoming the hub of the global food basket. She expressed confidence that the Chintan Shivir would generate ideas that contribute to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The session also saw Shri Nadda, Smt. Patel, and Shri Mishra personally interacting with each of the 15 discussion groups, ensuring every suggestion was considered. Senior officials from PSUs, cooperative societies, and private companies actively participated, making the Shivir a comprehensive brainstorming exercise.
Focus Areas and Future Outlook
The deliberations covered 15 critical areas, including promoting innovative fertilizers, enhancing farmer awareness, improving distribution through digital platforms, and ensuring sustainable nutrient management. The government aims to implement these insights in future policies to support farmers and strengthen India’s agricultural productivity.
Through such initiatives, the Department of Fertilizers demonstrates its commitment to placing farmers at the center of governance, aligning with broader national goals for agricultural self-reliance and environmental sustainability.
