FDDI Foundation Day Highlights Innovation & Skill Development

The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), an Institution of National Importance under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, celebrated its Foundation Day with a grand Industry Conclave. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, alumni, academicians, students, and key partners from footwear, leather, fashion, and allied sectors.

Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence

The Foundation Day also served as the curtain-raiser for FDDI’s forthcoming milestone, “40 Years of Excellence”, initiating year-long celebrations. The institute unveiled its Vision 2030, aimed at fostering innovation-led education, sustainability, entrepreneurship, industry integration, and global competitiveness.

Commitment to Skill Development and Innovation

Addressing the gathering, Managing Director Shri Vivek Sharma, IRS, highlighted FDDI’s journey since its establishment in 1986 and emphasised continued collaboration with DPIIT and industry partners. He stated that FDDI remains committed to nurturing talent, promoting innovation, and contributing to nation-building while staying rooted in Indian heritage and sustainability.

Industry-Academia Collaboration

The event featured a Talk Show Session with FDDI leadership, distinguished alumni, and representatives from leading industry organisations. Discussions focused on emerging trends, future skill requirements, technology integration, and the importance of industry–academia collaboration, highlighting FDDI’s pivotal role in talent development and industrial growth.

Recognising Creativity and Talent

FDDI also hosted the Prize Distribution Ceremony of the CBSE National-Level Design Competition, celebrating students’ creativity and innovation from across the country. An Industry Advisory Roundtable convened senior leaders to discuss workforce development, innovation, and global competitiveness, during which the institute launched its Industry Membership Programme and signed MoUs with partner organisations to strengthen education, research, skilling, and technology transfer.

Cultural Showcase and Sustainability

Adding a cultural dimension, FDDI students presented a fashion show themed “Traditional Khadi”, showcasing India’s handspun and handwoven textiles through contemporary design. The presentation emphasised sustainability, indigenous textiles, and the ethos of “Vocal for Local”.

Future-Ready Roadmap

The Foundation Day and Industry Conclave reaffirmed FDDI’s position as a premier national institute committed to excellence in education, innovation, and industry collaboration, setting the stage for its 40th year and future global competitiveness.
