Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurates Corporate Bhavan in Kolkata

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the newly constructed Corporate Bhavan in New Town, Kolkata, today. The state-of-the-art facility brings together various key departments of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), including the Regional Directorate (East), Registrar of Companies, Official Liquidator, Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT – Kolkata Bench), and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) — all under one roof.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Finance Minister described Corporate Bhavan as a significant step toward creating a single-window interface for companies, insolvency professionals, auditors, startups, and investors seeking regulatory services. “This consolidation will reduce operational costs, accelerate approvals, and enhance overall efficiency, thereby promoting Ease of Doing Business,” she said.

She emphasised the importance of building a regulatory environment that not only ensures good governance but also supports entrepreneurship, encourages formalisation, and builds public trust in the corporate ecosystem.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the country’s first Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Facilitation Centre, located on the seventh floor of Corporate Bhavan. The centre is a joint initiative of the MCA and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), designed to connect eligible youth (aged 21–24) with corporate internship opportunities across participating companies.

The PMIS Centre will:

A dedicated team of three professionals will manage the centre, with a special focus on youth who are not currently in full-time education or employment.

The newly inaugurated seven-storey building, with a built-up area of over 13,200 square meters, was constructed at a cost of ₹150.43 crore. Designed with sustainability in mind, Corporate Bhavan features energy-efficient systems, waste recycling facilities, smart parking, and occupant-friendly design. It is equipped with CO₂ sensors in the air handling units to ensure high indoor air quality.
