Indian Naval Ships Tir and Shardul, along with Indian Coast Guard Ship Veera, from the First Training Squadron (1TS) concluded their visit to Muscat, Oman, on October 9, 2024. During their four-day stay, the Indian Navy engaged with the Royal Navy of Oman, reinforcing strong ties and fostering deeper cooperation between the two maritime nations.
Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, along with the commanding officers of the visiting ships, met with Vice Admiral Abdullah Bin Khamis Bin Abdullah Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, and Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsen Al-Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman. Discussions focused on enhancing defense cooperation, training exchanges, and joint exercises, with an emphasis on strengthening the strategic partnership and improving interoperability between the two navies.
The Indian Naval delegation also visited Said Bin Sultan Naval Base, where they toured ships, maintenance units, and medical facilities. Trainees from the First Training Squadron visited the Sultan Qaboos Naval Academy, exploring various simulators and sports facilities. They also toured the Royal Navy of Oman’s Fleet Maintenance Unit and troop carrier ship Al Naasir. Meanwhile, Royal Navy of Oman personnel visited the Indian ships, fostering camaraderie and exchanging best practices.
In addition, the Indian Navy organized a school outreach event, offering students insights into the Indian Navy’s role and capabilities. The Indian Naval Symphonic Band performed at Oman Avenues Mall, captivating the audience with a musical display that transcended cultural boundaries. Mrs. Vijaya Srinivas, President of the Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (Southern Region), visited the A.B.L.E Early Intervention Centre at Indian School Wadi Kabir, interacting with faculty and children and commending the school’s initiatives.
During the visit, Indian Ambassador to Oman, Shri Amit Narang, toured the ships and held an interactive session with the sea trainees. A formal reception was hosted by Vice Admiral V. Srinivas aboard the ships, attended by diplomats, Omani dignitaries, and other distinguished guests.
The visit concluded on a high note, further strengthening the longstanding maritime relationship between India and Oman.
