The first expedition, Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K), will cover 4,480 kilometres, starting from Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on October 31. Cyclists will traverse Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, concluding in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu on November 16. A total of 150 riders will participate, led by mountaineer Nisha Kumari, who previously cycled from India to London and scaled Mount Everest, spreading the message of “Change before Climate Change.”
Pedal to Plant Expedition
The second initiative, Pedal to Plant, will span 4,000 kilometres from Pangsau, Arunachal Pradesh to Mundra, Gujarat, concluding on December 31, 2025. During the journey, cyclists will plant 100,000 saplings and conduct awareness sessions on climate change and fitness across schools and colleges, reinforcing Fit India’s mission of sustainable health and environmental consciousness.
Minister’s Message and Vision
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya extended his best wishes to participants, calling the expedition a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a healthier nation, he encouraged citizens to cycle daily for at least 30 minutes to one hour, promoting fitness and reducing pollution. Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that cycling serves both as a tool for personal well-being and as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
Promoting Fitness and Environmental Sustainability
These expeditions build upon the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ movement and are expected to reduce carbon emissions by over 100,000 kilograms nationwide. By combining physical activity with environmental action, the campaigns embody Fit India’s dual objectives of fostering a healthy population and sustainable ecosystems. Through these initiatives, the government aims to inspire citizens to adopt active lifestyles and contribute to ecological preservation.
Nationwide Impact and Participation
The “Iron Wheels of Unity” campaigns represent a unifying effort to connect citizens across India, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Participants from diverse backgrounds, including fitness enthusiasts, environmental activists, and young leaders, will contribute to a high-impact movement that blends adventure, awareness, and national pride.
