Fit India Sundays on Cycle Unites 14 Lakh Citizens Nationwide

RR Team, October 27, 2025October 26, 2025
World Boxing Champion Meenakshi Hooda joined hundreds of cyclists and fitness enthusiasts this Sunday at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, marking the 45th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle. The initiative, part of the Fit India Movement, has now become a nationwide fitness revolution with over 14 lakh participants across 1,20,000 locations.
Launched in December 2024, the campaign started with only 500 participants in Delhi and 1,000 locations nationwide. Today, it unites citizens of all ages and professions, promoting the mantra “Aadha Ghanta Roz Fitness Ka Dose” and encouraging 30 minutes of daily physical activity.

Jan Andolan for Fitness

Under the guidance of Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the movement has grown into a true citizen-driven initiative. Participants include teachers, doctors, healthcare workers, government employees, police personnel, MPs, MLAs, and community members, transforming streets and parks into hubs of energy and camaraderie.

The previous week saw a unique “Cycle from Home” edition, inspiring citizens to maintain fitness even during festive celebrations. Dr. Mandaviya led by example, cycling with people from his village and reinforcing the message that fitness is a way of life.

Support from Athletes and Fitness Icons

The campaign has drawn support from prominent athletes and celebrities including The Great Khali, Jackie Shroff, Ayesha Shroff, Mirabai Chanu, Yogeshwar Dutt, Lovlina Borgohain, and others. Their participation has inspired citizens, particularly youth, to view fitness as a shared social movement and national priority.

Leading fitness chains like Cult Fit, Gold’s Gym, Fitness First, and Fitspire have amplified the initiative, organizing cycling, Zumba, rope skipping, and Yogasana sessions across 50,000 gyms, emphasizing collective health and wellness.

Community Engagement Across India

Fit India Sundays on Cycle events now span State and UT capitals, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, Khelo India Centres, and over 3,500 NaMo Fit India Cycling Clubs. From Kargil to Kerala, Delhi to Chhattisgarh, the movement has created a nationwide wave of fitness awareness.

Medical professionals actively participate, reinforcing preventive health messages and encouraging citizens to embrace a healthier lifestyle. Each Sunday, communities come together to cycle, exercise, and enjoy open-air workouts, making fitness accessible, social, and joyful.

Conclusion

What began as a small initiative has now become India’s largest citizen-led fitness movement. Fit India Sundays on Cycle not only promotes physical well-being but also strengthens social cohesion, community engagement, and a culture of health, taking India closer to the vision of a Fit, Energetic, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
