Former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique Shot Dead, Buried with State Honours

Baba Siddique, a former three-time MLA from Bandra West and a member of the Ajit Pawar faction of the National Congress Party (NCP), was tragically shot and killed on Saturday in Bandra East at the age of 66. Siddique, a prominent political figure in Maharashtra, was laid to rest on Sunday night with full state honours amidst a large crowd of mourners and political leaders. Tight security was present during the burial.

The incident occurred near the office of Siddique’s son, Zeeshan Siddique, where at least six bullets were fired at the former minister, with four striking him in the chest. The attack took place during the Dussehra festivities, and three assailants were involved. Two suspects have been arrested, with reports suggesting they claim to be members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, although the gang has not officially taken responsibility for the killing.

The police are treating this as a possible contract killing, despite Siddique being provided with ‘Y’ category security. Investigations are ongoing.
