Union Minister and senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh criticized the Mamata Banerjee government on Thursday over its response to the alleged assault on two CISF job aspirants from Bihar by unidentified individuals in West Bengal.
Singh shared a video of the incident on his social media account, sparking political controversy. In his post, he questioned the rationale behind the attack, asking, “Are these children not part of India?” He further remarked on the contrasting treatment of Rohingya Muslims in Bengal, highlighting the disparity when it comes to the safety of Bihar youth.
The footage, reportedly from Siliguri, shows one assailant aggressively questioning the youths while another films the encounter. In the video, one man interrogates a youth about his origin, to which the youth responds that he is from Bihar and is in town to take an exam. The man then verbally abuses him, questioning how he was allowed to participate in the exam as a non-resident of Bengal, and demands to see the youth’s domicile certificate. The youths are seen pleading with their hands folded while being forced to perform physical punishment, holding their ears.
In response to the incident, Siliguri police announced on social media that they had identified the two assailants. Initially claiming to be IB officers during the assault, the individuals were arrested after the police confirmed their identities and revealed that their claims were false. The police posted an update stating, A video circulated on social media showed two persons claiming to be IB officers assaulting two others in Siliguri. Those individuals have been identified, and their claims of being IB officers have been proven false.
